Boy - if anyone thinks this is a NY Deli, you really need to go to New York. The pastrami sandwich had just enough to qualify as a Nouvelle Cuisine small plate. The only part of New York that was genuine was the price. Coupled with the sandwich was a scoop of plaster masquerading as potato salad. The corned beef in the Reuben was uniquely underwhelming and tasteless. As one would say in NY, "pass 'em by."

Very good new York deli. Prices were resonable and meat wash fresh. Had a pastrami sandwich. Even gave me a tea to go. I would highly recommend

Food: Decent. Had matzo ball soup and potato pancakes. But probably wouldn't go back. Service: Good and friendly. Atmosphere: Casual and diner like.

Excellent NY style deli in Hilton Head. Huge portions. Reminds me of the real Carnegie Deli, but better and less expensive. Must try the Bronx Bomber and hand cut fries!

We had a great breakfast this morning! My wife and I will return to try out what looks like great sandwiches.

Good, authentic New York deli. Large sandwiches. And they have tongue (as well as pastrami, corned beef and more).

A true ny deli in Hilton head. This is a must Everytime we come to the island. A little expensive but considering the amount of food you get its not bad at all and we'll worth it. Go, you won't be disappointed!

I was looking for a quick breakfast sandwich and stumbled across this place. Ordered a sausage, egg and cheese on a a bagel and home fries to go. It took less than 10 minutes to get. The sandwich was very good. Home fries were perfectly done with onions. I looked over the entire menu while waiting and everything looked really good.

Great lunch spot. Hotel recommended it to us. I was concerned when we first walked in because decor just a bit dated. That concern quickly dissipated. Service was excellent, large variety of sandwiches. Food was great, we ordered a large fry and all four of us shared -- plenty!

OMG this place is so good. My wife and I split a pastrami & tongue large sandwich. We asked for 2 extra slices of bread and actually made two sandwiches out of one. It really good. French fries were home made and delicious. The service- well the lady that seated us was a little abrupt but I think that was just her nature. I saw her cutting up with some of the patrons. Our server was Marrianna. Hope I spelled her name right. She was really personable and took care of our every need. The restaurant was very clean. We would difimaty go back again.

I had the pastrami sandwich on a keiser bun and my wife had the Matt's special that consisted of chicken, provolone, grilled onions, and a sweet mustard on the keiser bun. Both were great and high quality ingredients.... felt like we had a little glimpse of a New York deli even though we don't truly know what one looks like. Would definitely come back.

Gruby's is just about the only decent deli on the island and certainly the best. They have some great variety with awesome meats like cappicola ham, beef tongue, liverwurst, and different kinds of salami. Good selection of cheeses and fresh salads also. Some of my favorites are the Vegetarian Wrap (house-made mushroom and artichoke salads, roasted red pepper, lettuce, tomato, onion, and muenster) and the Herald Square Sandwich (turkey, cranberry sauce, brie, and cucumber). The homemade cheesecake looked incredible, but I'm saving it for next visit! Service was perfect, very friendly and informative to a first-timer. Some people may say the prices are a little high ($9.49 for most sandwiches with a small side of slaw) but you're paying for quality ingredients and you will walk out full. The only criticism (constructive) that I have is to bring up the quality and variety of the bread to match your great meats! End of story, if you like a good, fresh tasting sandwich with high quality NY style ingredients, you gotta make time for Gruby's.

Pretty good authentic deli food. Rude service though, but hey it makes you feel like you are in NY and not Hilton Head. Not counting the rudeness if you are in Hilton Head and want some good deli food check the place out.

I love when you can find a local vacation restaurant spot that you continue to return to year after year. I've been coming to Hilton Head with my partner and his family for the last five (maybe six?) years and every year, Gruby's is a lunch place we stop AT LEAST twice. We're only in Hilton Head once a year, but the even the servers recognize us! :) If you're stopping at Gruby's for the first time, make sure not to miss their matzo ball soup. I'm admittedly not a huge fan of matzo, but Gruby's does it right with a pleasing balance of consistency and (for lack of a better word) moistness. If there is one negative thing that one may find about this place is you aren't going to be able to order anything quickly. But let's be honest--more than likely you're either a retiree on the island or someone there vacationing, which means you SHOULDN'T be in a rush.

What a pleasant surprise. We had seen Gruby's many times but never thought of visiting. Today we decided to stop in. What a great experience. This is the best deli on Hilton Head Island. Our sandwiches were very good the shared basket for fries were hand cut and awesome. The service was friendly and efficient. We will return.

Family comes down to hhi twice a year and hit gruby's for breakfast at least once or twice during the stay. Breakfast is good and worth the price. This place does not advertise and you find it via word of mouth. Locals come in and our regulars and known by the staff. Now you know so give them a try, it is worth it. Just make sure you check out their hours of operation before you go.

Been here a few times - it's not a "real' jewish deli because a lot of the items on the menu can not campare with th real thing. However, the food is pretty good and the service is always good. It is pretty pricey for what you get though.

Food was not bad. My hubby loved his de luxe burger with grilled onions and jalapeno on the side. My chicken salad sandwich was okay. Most items are under ten dollars.

Decent example of a NYC deli in the deep south. Didn't try the beef tongue or chopped liver (not my thing), but the Ruben was solid, as were the fresh cut fries and chicken soup. Sandwiches are pricey but enormo. Good lunch option.

Good New York-style deli. I had the new york reuben, with pastrami and corned beef, and it was very good. it came with a small cup of cole slaw and a pickle. Good amount of meat and a fair price. Basic but friendly service.

Gruby's was good. We got the Brisket sandwich and it was monstrous. The only thing that would have bumped this deli from 3 stars to 4 would be a little more flavoring on the meat. Because there was s much meat, at times it lacked the flavor I wanted it to have. Great service, friendly people, and delicious copious quantities of high grade deli meat. If you find yourself in Hilton head wanting something different from seafood, skip Wendy's and Panera and go straight for Gruby's.
